Grosse Ile is a General Law Township. It is a corporate Entity, subsidiary to the State of Michigan, empowered with those specific authorities granted It by the State.

Grosse Ile is governed by an elected Board of Trustees, comprised of a Supervisor, Treasurer, Clerk and four (4) additional Trustees.
These Officials stand for election in November every fourth year.

The Township employs numerous individuals to oversee daily Departmental operations, including a Township Manager who is charged with overall responsibility for operational performance.

Departments work in concert with Board-appointed Commissions and Committees. These are populated by Township citizens, who serve voluntary four-year Terms. Commissions/Committees report to the Board of Trustees.

The Township also contracts with various professional Firms for legal, accounting, planning and engineering services.
