Yankee Air Force Comes to Grosse Ile

We are pleased to welcome to Grosse Ile Municipal Airport four restored aircraft which are part of the Yankee Air Force. The airplanes are now housed in the former Grosse Ile Naval Air Station for the winter months.

The aircraft include: "Yankee Doodle Dandy", a Douglas C-47 World War II transport; "Yankee Lad", a B-17G "Flying Fortress" which was used in the movie "Tora!Tora!Tora!"; "Yankee Warrior", a B-25D "Mitchell", medium-duty bomber, similar to the type used in Jimmy Doolittle's raid on Tokyo; and “Yankee Ship”, a Stinson V-77 / AT-19 Reliant, utility aircraft and trainer.
