Opportunity Grosse Ile is a collaboration of community,
school, and business members working together to
promote our island home. Through coalition building,
resource development, joint planning and marketing,
we promote living on, working in and enjoying
Grosse Ile.
Our intent is to raise awareness of all the great amenities
Grosse Ile has to offer to prospective homebuyers who are
looking to live in Southeastern Michigan.
Our goal is to strengthen our community through:
Increased home ownership
Attendance in our schools and places of worship;
Support of our many diverse community activities, and
We are pleased to welcome to Grosse Ile Municipal Airport four restored aircraft which are part of the Yankee Air Force. The airplanes are now housed in the former Grosse Ile Naval Air Station for the winter months.
The aircraft include: "Yankee Doodle Dandy", a Douglas C-47 World War II transport; "Yankee Lad", a B-17G "Flying Fortress" which was used in the movie "Tora!Tora!Tora!"; "Yankee Warrior", a B-25D "Mitchell", medium-duty bomber, similar to the type used in Jimmy Doolittle's raid on Tokyo; and “Yankee Ship”, a Stinson V-77 / AT-19 Reliant, utility aircraft and trainer.
